About NEBOSH

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is a leading global organisation, which provides health, safety and environmental qualifications. Our internationally recognised qualifications help to raise the competence of safety and environmental professionals as well as individuals at all levels in the workplace. NEBOSH qualifications are highly respected by governments, employers and our learners.

Tens of thousands of people from more than 170 countries study for a NEBOSH qualification every year, learning with our network of over 450 Learning Partners.

Our charitable impacts

As an internationally recognised charity NEBOSH plays an important role in the health, safety and environmental professional community. Through NEBOSH qualifications, learners and their employers can improve the lives of people around the world by keeping their colleagues and their communities safe from work-related accidents and ill-health.

How many people are we reaching with our messaging?
Through our network of learners, employers, Learning Partners, governments and other stakeholders, NEBOSH  has a vast international community with which to engage. We have a wide range of channels that can help us to raise the profile of the profession, share best practice and educational content.

Who are we reaching around the world?
There is a NEBOSH qualification for anyone, at any stage of their career, in any role and in any industry or country around the world. The transition to digital and remote assessments – coupled with the move by many Learning Partners to offer virtual delivery options – has made NEBOSH qualifications even more accessible.

How do we provide training and support that is relevant throughout a career?
Many learners choose NEBOSH as their preferred HSE qualification(s) and route through continued professional development; they improve their skills, contribute to employer requirements and, in some locations, promote social mobility. We provide qualifications at all levels and offer both general and specialist products.

Our vision

We enable and inspire the world of work and wider environment to be a safer and healthier place.

Our mission

We provide world-class and accessible, health, safety, environment, risk and wellbeing qualifications and services.

Our Approach to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I)

NEBOSH has signed the Federation of Awarding Bodies’ Equity, Diversity & Inclusion pledge. The pledge highlights our commitment to the fundamental principles of ensuring equity and inclusivity for all learners, stakeholders and colleagues across the education and skills system.

Our EDI Vision

Achieving the over-arching commitments, and embedding consistent practices, to realise an optimal working environment for all.

To maintain a great working environment for all, NEBOSH commits to the following:

  • Being open, honest, and transparent about our EDI journey, sharing our progress and learnings along the way.
  • Striving for ethical and authentic leadership and collectively driving positive change.
  • Ensuring that employees of all backgrounds are welcomed, treated equally, and feel represented across the organisation.
  • Fostering a culture where everyone feels confident to bring their whole selves to work, ensuring that NEBOSH is a safe space for all.
  • Committing to ‘zero tolerance’ of discrimination of any kind, emphasising this in our policies and in our Code of Conduct.
  • Enabling all employees to contribute to the NEBOSH vision and mission, with equal access to progression opportunities.
  • Creating an accessible organisation, where people of all abilities and backgrounds are actively supported to fulfil their potential.
  • Supporting the whole spectrum of sexuality and gender identity, and being inclusive of ethnicity, nationality, and faith.
  • Publicly engaging on EDI, tackling the core issues that affect our people and our counterparts in the wider OSH sector.
  • Aiming to be one of the AO leaders in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Our Approach

The approach follows the framework set out by the Centre for non-profit excellence, which proposes three phases to achieving EDI:

  1. Normalise: Initiate conversations to create a shared understanding of the key EDI concepts at the Executive and Leadership levels.
  2. Organise: Build the infrastructure internally to institutionalise EDI in all policies and procedures.
  3. Operationalise: Develop tools, set goals, and track implementation and progress towards the vision.

Our Desired Outcomes

We will know we are successful when:

  • EDI is supported and communicated across the entire organisation becoming engrained within NEBOSH.
  • Everyone is treated with dignity and respect, being encouraged to develop skills and fulfil their potential.
  • Everyone feels empowered to raise issues regarding unlawful victimisation, harassment, or unjust treatment.
  • We experience high engagement rates and organisation wide involvement with EDI initiatives.
  • Individuality and fluidity are collectively embraced, breaking down barriers set by traditional working styles.
